Caring for Your Paintings Never allow anyone to touch your painting as body oils can harm the finish. If you are buying a new painting, it needs to be varnished when it is one year old. I recommend that this be done by a professional. If you are buying an older painting, this has already been done for you. New paintings will come to you with a temporary varnish applied for its protection. If cleaning your painting ever becomes necessary, this too should be done by a professional.
Take your painting to the art dealer of your choice and, with their assistance, have your painting placed in various frames or frame samples before you make your selection. Always keep in mind the decor and background in the immediate area where your painting will hang.
Hanging Your Paintings Be very cautious when hanging an unframed painting on a nail, as it can damage the canvas. I strongly recommend against this method! Go to your art dealer and purchase the proper hanging hardware for the size and weight of your painting.
Viewing Your Paintings For the maximum viewing benefit, admire your paintings from a distance of at least four feet. In addition, to bring out all the vividness of the colors, purchase from your art dealer the proper size frame lamp and have it installed over your painting. A painting needs proper light to live. See examples below to see the difference between a lighted and unlighted painting. |
